I have been on the pill for years now and as i sometimes miss a pill me an my boyfriend always use condoms as well (just as an extra precaution) I was started on antibiotics on Sunday which i understand cancels the protection of the pill for the 7 days you take antibiotics and also 7 days after. On the Monday night me and my boyfriend had unprotected sex. Will the pill not of protected me for that day?

contrary to popular belief only the more powerful serious antibiotics actually weaken your birth control. While using a back up method is always a good idea the antibiotics that cancel out your birth control are the more powerful ones that are used for things such as TB and staph infections, not normal ones used for more common everyday things such as ear, yeast, bladder infections and such. Most Dr’s if they know you are on b/c will also tell you if the medication you are on will weaken your b/c any also the pharmacist, the insert that comes with the medication( that apparently nobody ever reads) will also tell you. Unless you have a more serious infection though i don’t think it is affecting your b/c but As said before using a back up method is always a smart responsible idea for people who do not want kids at the time. Good luck
